I had the absolute privilege to attend the 2025 RSL LifeCare Poppy Ball, held aboard the magnificent HMAS Canberra (III) last Sat November 8th.
Being able to walk the deck of a military warship was an experience that words can hardly do justice. The sheer scale of the vessel, the precision of its design, and the presence of our serving men and women reminded us of the strength, sacrifice, and professionalism that define Australia’s Defence Force. Standing on that deck, was nothing short of humbling.
The evening itself was a beautiful tribute to our veterans, hosted by RSL LifeCare Veteran Services, an organisation doing truly exceptional work in supporting those who’ve served. Their programs provide essential assistance in areas such as employment, housing, financial guidance, mental health, and community connection. It’s more than just support — it’s a genuine commitment to helping veterans and their families rebuild, reconnect, and thrive after service.
Events like the Poppy Ball remind us why that work matters. They celebrate not only our nation’s history but also make the effort to support its living heroes, the people who continue to serve in different ways long after they’ve hung up the uniform.
To RSL LifeCare, The Royal Australian Navy and everyone who made the evening possible, congratulations on delivering an event worthy of its purpose. It was an honour to share in such a meaningful occasion, on such an iconic ship, in the company of those who embody the very best of Australia along with a few family and friends.
